The huge Bekal Fort lies about 16 km to the south of the northernmost district in Kerala, Kasaragod. It is among Kerala’s largest forts and has been maintained impeccably over the years. It rises to 130 feet above sea level and is situated on a 35km-long headland. Comfortably set on steep hills by the sea, the fort provides an impressive beach view. It is one of the most visited sites in Kerala, constructed using laterite slabs and with a polygonal form. The key attractions include an observation tower filled with beautiful peepholes, the Anjaneya Temple with its famous masonry, and two laterite- Theyyam sculptures. Also, important places in the region are an ancient mosque founded by Tipu Sultan and numerous
underground passages. A rock garden was designed in the parking area using laterite, which is in itself an architectural wonder. On the beach, trees were planted together with the development of a splendid walkway that makes it easier to cross the beach and enjoy its sights. The whole place is lit
